I've decided to challenge myself for the month of November by doing 22-24 hour Alternate Day Intermittent Fasting. At the moment, my goal is to follow my normal Ketovore way of eating every other day (from lunch to lunch). Then, ever other day to start my fast following lunch and go through til lunch the following day. In other words: Day 1: Eat Breakfast and Lunch as normal. Begin fast after lunch and skip dinner. Day 2: skip breakfast, eat lunch and dinner. Day 3: Eat breakfast and lunch as normal. Begin next fast after lunch and skip dinner.
This post tracks my progress and thoughts for week 1.

I wasn't planning on doing this challenge. It came to me last minute, when I was researching IF for another post. It happened like this: I ate too much Halloween junk, so after the holiday I did a 22 hour fast to put myself back in ketosis. For the first time, the fast was EASY. I've always had more of a mental block with fasting than a physical one. When I try to fast, it flicks a switch in my brain and suddenly I can't focus on anything but food cravings. That wasn't the case this time around (maybe 15 months keto has helped me get past that).
That's when I decided to start 18-24 hour Alternate Day Intermittent Fasting. Basically, skipping dinner every other day and skipping breakfast on the opposite days, so I go about 22 hours every other day without eating, but still manage to eat at least twice every day (breakfast and lunch on some days, and lunch and dinner on other days).
This worked amazingly well for me in the month of November. Despite not being able to maintain Ketovore daily throughout the month, I still managed to maintain my weight loss. I had several days in the month where I didn't eat to my goals, and I didn't lose any weight in November, but the Alternate Day IF kept me in ketosis and kept me from GAINING any weight. I ended the month with a 2 ounce difference in weight from where I started the month. I'm calling this experiment a win for the holidays!
